Budget Bridal Shower Menu & Game Ideas
A couple of years ago I hosted a bridal shower and it was such a success! I found online several message boards with brides asking what menu and games to use. So I though I’d put on my website some of the things I’ve personally done that resulted in a very fun party! Enjoy!
The Menu
Turkey Wraps-
Take a tortilla, smooth cream cheese over (perhaps a flavored variety), put enough turkey and then head lettuce to cover entire tortilla. Roll up tortilla and poke with 5 toothpicks, cut off ends and discard (or eat), and cut between the toothpicks.
These are yummy and a lot cheaper than providing a hot meal or even another type of sandwich.
Deviled Eggs-
Easy to make and are fancy to have at a party- sprinkle with paprika!
Fresh fruit-
Cut up and places in a carved out watermelon bowl rind is very festive. Use melon scoops to ball the fruit to save time.
Other appetizer ideas-
Hummus over pita bread, Spinach dip and chips, Egg rolls, fresh caramel pop corn, and there’s always Chex Mix.
Easy punch-
4- 2L cranberry ginger-ale; 1 gallon raspberry sherbet
In a large punch bowl, pour out 2-2L ginger-ales, then scoop the sherbet, then pour out the remaining 2-2L ginger-ales.
Dessert-
How about an easy/modified trifle? Cube white cake into 1″ pieces, and layer with vanilla pudding and fresh berries into a large bowl. It’s easy for guests to scoop their dessert into cups or bowls, and is not a hassle to make.
The Games
Start out the party by giving bracelets out to everyone. You can go to the Claire’s in the mall to find cheap plastic/stretchy bracelets. Get enough where every guest can start out with 5 bracelets. Then once everyone has arrived, say that the rules of this game is that the guests can not cross their legs, or say the buzzword, like “wedding” or “bride” or “groom”. But anyone catching another guest doing either of the two things and is called out on- they must give that person 1 bracelet. At the end of the night, the person with the most bracelets gets a prize.
Next, make a list of famous couples. Try to think of a variety of couples like- Romeo and Juliet, Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez, Cinderella and Prince Charming, Antony and Cleopatra- just choose names everyone would know. Then separate the couples by writing the names down individually on cards, and tape then on the guests’ foreheads. Now the guests must mingle and ask questions to figure out who they are, and then must find their better half. The game is finished when everyone has found their partner. The first “couple” to finish would get a prize.
How well do you know the bride? Go online and find a website with all about you quizzes. Let the bride fill out ahead of time, and have each guest try to answer the questions for a prize.
Make a tray filled with random items in your house. Have the bride slowly walk the tray so each guest and look and memorize them for 30 seconds. Then the bride must leave the room.
Option 1- the guests will answer questions about the items on the tray to test their memory.
Option 2- the guests will answer question about the bride. Ex: What color earrings was she wearing? How was her hair parted?
It’s always fun to end the party with the toilet-paper wedding dress game. Separate into groups with at least 3 people in each group. Each group will pick 1 “bride”, and then try to make a toilet paper wedding dress in 20 minutes. Give prizes for the most creative dress (usually when then make the flowers, the veil, the jewelry out of toilet paper too!), and the funniest dress should also get a prize!
I hope the Bridal Party Menu and Games will help to inspire your bride’s maids when they are planning your event. Good luck and I appreciate any comments or suggestions for modifying the menu or any games.
